A Leap Through London

As long as I can remember, London has been a dream destination for me. Several of my favorite novels are set in that eclectic city: Sherlock Holmes, Oliver Twist, Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and portions of the Harry Potter series. Though I had the image of Big Ben on my phone background screen as a beacon to my dream, I figured that’d be as close as I’d get until I saved a
Luckily for me, the city did not disappoint. Some of my highlights included an extensive Harry Potter tour at the Warner Brothers studio, Kings Cross Station, and my self-guided tour at Hampton Court Palace where King Henry VIII (and others) resided. I enjoyed exploring the house on 221B Baker Street (that of Sherlock Holmes’). And who can forget the crown jewels and crows at Tower of London, which were definitely worth a stop. Of course, when in London, one shouldn’t miss Buckingham Palace. I didn’t spot the Queen or her famous corgi dogs though.
It seemed like the city offered an abundance of tours for every person of every walk of life. To name a few: Jack the Ripper night tour, Wembley Stadium Tour, London Law Tour, Mary Poppins, Sandeman’s Grim Reaper Tour, and even one for all the various toilets (or loos) in London.
Aside from the tours, the city itself had an energy that filled me with excitement and curiosity. Simply walking down the street and looking at the architecture one can be swept away into the splendor of the city. I experienced the city by foot, double-decker bus, taxi, bike and train; perhaps my favorite being by bike. London’s accessibility to public transit was highly appreciated. That’s something I feel really makes or breaks a city to those visiting.
All in all, the sites were interesting, the food was delicious – though my fish allergy prevented me from sampling the classic fish n’ chips that London is so famous for – the night scene was thrilling, and the locals were welcoming. I am happy to report that London, England was everything I imagined it could be. I highly recommend it.
